YOU SAY YOU LOVE ME?
You say that you love me
But I look at the things you do
Your words speak of love for me
But your actions say, it’s not true.
You say you could not handle me
You asked your dad, what should you do?
“Hit her” were his words to you.
And stupid you what did you do?
You listened to the one who was hitting you…
Then hit the one true love you ever knew, the only one who truly loved you too.
What did you think that I would do?
Were the flowers a gift from your dad too?
I told you then, what I had learned
Every pain in my heart my dad had churned
Too many years of hurt to count
And you dare to come to me on your dad’s account
What expertise did he demonstrate?
As your father - filling your heart with hate?
You made your choice back then you see
You chose your fist over your love for me
Can’t you see what your choice did to me?
Despite what was in my heart, I had to set you free
For I deserved someone who loved me completely-
Even though we loved each other equally.
With a single stroke of your hand
You proved we could never be
I would not relive history
In my own home you see
The man I love should NEVER EVER raise his hand at me.
What did you think I had learned all those years?
When in your arms I cried so many tears
That pain in my heart had taught me…
I deserved someone who loved and respected me.
So you see, there was only one choice for me
To let the love that burned deep within
Slowly die and pray that God would set my heart free
To love another as they would love me.
